Day 1: Addis Ababa – Culture & City Sights
Begin your Ethiopian adventure in the capital city.
Visit Holy Trinity Cathedral, the final resting place of Emperor Haile Selassie. Explore the National Museum, offering a rich introduction to Ethiopian history and culture. Drive to the scenic Entoto Hills for panoramic views of the city and visit Maryam Church. Stop at Shiro Meda, a traditional textile market. Explore either the Mercato or Sholla Market, two of Addis Ababa’s bustling trading hubs.
Day 2: Addis Ababa – Bahir Dar
Fly to Bahir Dar with Ethiopian Airlines. Take a boat tour on Lake Tana, the source of the Blue Nile. Visit two ancient monasteries on the Zege Peninsula: Ura Kidane Mehret, Azwa Maryam, Mehal Zege Giorgis, or Bete Maryam. Enjoy a sunset at Bezawit Hills, overlooking the Nile River.
Day 3: Bahir Dar – Gondar
Drive to Gondar through scenic countryside. Explore the Royal Enclosure, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with five castles built by 17th-century Ethiopian emperors. Visit Debre Berhan Selassie Church, renowned for its angel-adorned ceiling and vibrant frescoes.
Day 4: Gondar – Simien Mountains National Park – Gondar
Drive to the Simien Mountains National Park, known for its jagged peaks and unique wildlife. Look out for the endemic Walia Ibex, Gelada Baboons, Klipspringers, and Bushbucks. Return to Gondar in the afternoon.
Day 5: Gondar – Lalibela
Fly to Lalibela via Ethiopian Airlines. Tour the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lalibela, home to eleven spectacular rock-hewn churches carved over 800 years ago. Discover the world’s largest monolithic church and an intricate network of passageways and religious art. Participate in a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony and learn how injera, the national bread, is prepared.
Day 6: Lalibela – Mount Asheton or Yemrehanna Kristos
Choose from two morning excursions:
Option 1: Hike or ride a mule to Mount Asheton Monastery (13th century) for incredible panoramic views.
Option 2: Drive to Yemrehanna Kristos, a beautifully preserved cave church that predates the Lalibela churches.
In the afternoon, continue exploring Lalibela’s remaining churches.
Day 7: Return to Addis Ababa & Departure
Fly or drive back to Addis Ababa. Transfer to your hotel or directly to the airport. If time permits, enjoy shopping and a farewell dinner before your international flight home.
