Danakil Depression
The Danakil Depression is not for the faint of heart. Located at the edge of the Rift Valley in Ethiopia’s Afar region, this otherworldly desert landscape is one of the most extreme environments on Earth. It is a cauldron of geological activity, where molten lava bubbles up in fiery displays, and sulfuric springs paint the terrain in striking shades of blue, green, and brown.
As one of the lowest points on the planet—lying below sea level yet untouched by water—the Danakil Depression is also among the hottest places on Earth. The best time to visit is between November and early January when temperatures are at their most bearable. Despite its remoteness, guided tours offer adventurous travelers a chance to witness this surreal and alien-like wonder up close.

Simien Mountain
Shaped by nature’s artistry, the Simien Mountains are a breathtaking spectacle in Ethiopia’s Amhara region, northeast of Gondar. This dramatic landscape, with towering peaks reaching up to 4543masl meters above sea level, is a stunning mix of jagged cliffs, sweeping valleys, and deep gorges. It is home to some of the world’s most unique flora and fauna, including the endemic Erica tree, the Ethiopian wolf, the Walia ibex, and the charismatic Gelada baboon.
The best time to visit is between September and November, just after the summer rains, when the mountains are lush and vibrant. Whether you prefer a multi-day guided tour or a challenging trek through this UNESCO-listed wonder, adventure awaits at every turn.

Bale Mountains National Park
Located 400km southeast of Addis Ababa, Bale Mountains National Park contains a spectacularly diverse landscape. The high altitude, afro-montane Sanetti Plateau rises to over 4,000m and includes the highest peak in the southern Ethiopia highlands. This undulating plateau is marked by numerous glacial lakes and swamps and surrounded by higher volcanic ridges and peaks. The southern slopes are covered by the lush and largely unexplored Harenna Forest.
Bale Mountains National Park is the ultimate destination for hikers, wildlife watchers, culture and nature enthusiasts, bird watchers and more! Explore one of the highest parks in Africa by horseback, go fishing or experience an authentic community trying local coffee and honey! One of the best sites to spot the rare and endangered Ethiopian Wolf is on the spectacular Sanetti Plateau as the sun rises.
